Revenge
Revenge is a common theme is Frankenstein. For some reason, people seem to think that revenge is the only way to solve things, but what they often don't think is that it only makes it worse. Victor Frankenstein had to learn that the hard way. He decided to make a deal with the devil and create another monster as a companion for his monster. After creating the second monster, he decided to dismantle it because he didn't want two monsters running around. The monster got very angry and wanted revenge. He threatened to harm all of Victor's family and friends...and he did. Because the monster did this, Victor wanted revenge on him. He chased his very very far north until Victor eventually died, so he never did get revenge. In both instances though, they ended in death. Revenge only causes more pain and grief then just letting it go and moving on with your life.
"But liberty had been a useless gift to me had I not, as I awakened to reason, at the same time awakened to revenge. As the memory of the past misfortunes pressed upon me, I began to reflect on their cause-the monster whom I had created, the miserable daemon whom I had sent abroad into the world for my destruction. I was possessed by a maddening rage when I thought of him, and desired and ardently prayed that I might have him within my grasp to a great and signal revenge on his cursed head." (p. 138)
